Finding Stories Faster Than an Automatic Dispenser Spits Out Toilet Paper

I never thought I’d compare personal storytelling to toilet paper dispensers… but here we are.

Every time I walk into an airport or restaurant bathroom, I look for the toilet paper dispenser. And it’s almost always there, ready to roll.

Some are manual, where you awkwardly crank the side.
Some are empty (which is frustrating, but manageable).
But the best ones? The automatic dispensers.

You know the ones.

You wave your hand, and like magic, it spits out a perfectly measured sheet of paper. Wave again. Another one. Do it 3 or 4 times, and you’ve got enough paper to dry your hands and move on with your life.

It’s predictable. Certain. Reliable.

And the best part? If it runs out, it lets you know with that little “errrrghhh” sound. So no surprises.

I was mesmerized the first time I saw one as a kid.

I must’ve waved my hand under that sensor at least 30 or 40 times just for the joy of it and piled up a mountain of clean, unused paper on the bathroom floor before I knew it.

But it felt certain. Like there was an endless supply of toilet paper. I was certain that every time I waved my hand, I’d get another sheet.

Now, imagine having that same level of predictability and reliability when it comes to finding personal stories for your speeches, content, and emails?

An automatic personal stories dispenser.

Early in my public speaking career, I struggled to find personal stories. So One day, I told my mentor: “I don’t have personal stories to tell.”

BUT her response hit me like a ton of bricks: “Everyone has personal stories. You’re just not looking for them.”

And she was right. I worked long and hard to get better at storytelling over the years, and it has become one of my strongest skills.

I can find stories—relevant, powerful stories—with the same certainty and endless supply as that automatic paper towel dispenser from my childhood.

How?

I use a simple system that allows me to find, compile, and store personal stories faster than a dispenser spits out paper towels.

And when I “run out”? I simply reload the system and start pulling more stories.

If you’re a speaker, storyteller, or content creator, this system can help you too.

It will teach you how to build an automatic personal story dispenser, so you never struggle to find personal stories again.

A word of caution:
This system isn’t magic. You’ll have to put in the work to gather your stories.

But if you follow the process, you’ll build a solid story bank in less than a month, and never run out of stories for the rest of your life.
